Do we want to think in boxes? (her)

It looks like the acceptation of lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender grows. For example in America, more and more States legalize gay marriages. However, being gay is sometimes still pretty hard. It looks like we ‘act’ tolerant but not truly want to face it. Especially young people have often many problems, with the fact that they are gay or lesbian. This has big consequences, like psychical problems. That’s why the organization for transgender and gay children came up with a special school.
The school will open his doors within three years in the center of Manchester. This will be the first school for lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender youth. The school must offer 40 children a full time place and 20 a part-time. “This is about saving lives,” said Amelia Lee, strategic director for LGBT Youth North West, the youth work charity behind the plans. There are a lot of sad stories about young gay people who end their lives, because of bullying at school. Pupils often have problems with school and creating structure. Just because they struggling with their identities and don’t feel any rest. The special school in Manchester must offer a calm and safe place for those young people. 82.000 euros are spent, to make this plan a success.
It isn’t surprisingly that England will be the first. The country tries to be really tolerant and has also laws who protect gay and lesbian people. Besides the special school, the LGBT organizes other campaigns. One of them is the #prideheroes campaign. A special rainbow train was designed. This train can be seen commuting between Canary Wharf and Stratford for the entirety of the London World Pride Festival.

You can question if this school will make it easier for those ‘special’ children to participate in the society or make it even harder. Maybe this school makes them ‘special’ or labels them more then necessary. Besides identities shift more and more. Which make those children less special. But actions like the ‘rainbow train’, exhibit the tricky topic from a bright side. I really hope that we going to think less in boxes.
