The face of litter (her)

This initiative sounds a bit crude, but maybe it isn’t. The only thing Hong Kong wants is to reduce all the rubisch. People’s behaviour must change and with initiaves it maybe will. At last we want to have healty cities, where we can live with a lot more people then now. We all need to feel responsible for that.

You need to be carefully when you throw your used chewing gum or cigarette onto the street. Messing with rubbish is dicing with death, because scientists can now use your DNA to create a sketch of your face. An environmental group in Hong Kong uses this high technology to fight the rubbish problem. Cause you can’t admit 6.5 million tons of trash a year, is a real problem.

In the campaign of ‘putting a face behind the crime’ they collected for example carton cups and gum. A laboratory analyse the samples genetic material. After that they create a facial composite of the litter. These composites are spread on billboards around the city. Advertising firm Oglivy & Mather came up with the idea to shame the litters. There’s no doubt it’s embarrassingly to see your face on a huge billboard at the metro station.

The initiative sounds a bit crude perhaps. In my opinion, big consequences like this are the only way to save the environment. Cities become more and more popular. However, nobody seems to take care of his own environment. Yet it’s a must! At last we want to have healthy cities. A proper and clean living place also improves our quality of life. It has influence at our social skills and activity. Caring together will bond us as people. It also can improve the future of the city and its facilities. Cause a clean and beautiful city has so much more to offer.

By caring for our responsibilities now we can provide a safe and clean planet for our next generations.
